Information Centre 'Slag om Arnhem'
Six kilometres to the east of the Airborne Museum, on the south side of Arnhem city centre, lies the bridge over the Rhine river that was the final goal of Operation Market Garden. This bridge – which was ‘A Bridge Too Far’ in September 1944 – has been called the John Frost Bridge since 1978, after the British Lieutenant-Colonel John Dutton Frost, who in 1944 bravely held it for four days.
Since September 2007, the Battle of Arnhem Information Centre has been situated at this historic spot at the foot of the bridge. At the centre you can see unique images and listen to audio fragments of witnesses to the events, civilians as well as allied and German soldiers. They recount what they saw, heard and experienced in those dreadful days of September 1944. Their stories are impressive and personal, and they are true. The Battle of Arnhem Information Centre is part of the Airborne Museum Hartenstein in Oosterbeek, which tells and shows the entire story of the Battle of Arnhem.
